Bill CLOSE
2022 candidate for Light Regional Council.
Heritage survey responses.
Do you think that Councils and community members need to have a greater voice in planning and development decisions affecting their local area?
Wit out a doubt. The current situation seems ludicrous. Councilors, the elected representatives of our residents have no powers to override government rules and regulations about planning and development that can negatively, and counter productively affect their regions. What role should Councils play in protecting local heritage places from demolition or inappropriate development?
Councils have the ability to connect with their community and know the heritage values of local places. Consultation is vital. How would you seek to improve protections for heritage places in your area?
Regular reassessment of Heritage listings is important to keep Heritage front of mind.We rarely see new places added to local heritage listings. Why do you think this is?
As above we all need to be aware of the history of the building and places we have in our regions. Regular reassessments are required. How has the Planning and Design Code impacted on the heritage, amenity, and environment of your area? What changes would you seek to the Code?
Desision need to be returned to the Local Councils with the Local knowledge. What are the impacts of infill development in your area? What changes would you seek in the rules around infill development?
Light is a rural council. In some cases, it is better to infill larger blocks to makes better use of services and not develop new areas. Here again Councils with local knowledge should be allowed more input. How should the community be informed and involved in decisions about new developments?
Community consultation needs to be early, open and transparent.Do you think there is adequate tree canopy across your local government area?
Generally, there can always be more trees. How would you like to see significant and regulated trees in your area protected from removal?
Current controls need regular reviews. What involvement should Councils have in decisions about protecting or removing significant and regulated trees?
Councils have the local knowledge, and with the right powers can supervise the planning controls. What actions would you advocate to slow or mitigate the impacts of climate change in your local government area?
I support our moves to green power, encouraging solar energy and e vehicles where practical. Also expanding the roadside plantings of shade trees. What issues are there with traffic and parking in your area?
Road maintenance is our biggest spend. How could transport options be improved in your area?
It would be great to see the extension of the suburban rail service to Roseworthy and the Barossa. What would your top three priorities be for improving planning policy and outcomes in your local government area?
Greater local input.
Councilors having a voice in planning decisions.
More consultation about long term planning goals.
