Heritage survey responses.
Do you think that Councils and community members need to have a greater voice in planning and development decisions affecting their local area?
Absolutely, the community input via elected members was reduced under the liberal state government when DAs became CAPs. At the very least a return to the DAP model would be an improvementWhat role should Councils play in protecting local heritage places from demolition or inappropriate development?
Council should play a large role via planning, heritage listing and as a conduit to community engagementHow would you seek to improve protections for heritage places in your area?
By having more local and community input into decision-makingWe rarely see new places added to local heritage listings. Why do you think this is?
Not sure perhaps people don't consider newer, places, buildings etc to be heritageHow has the Planning and Design Code impacted on the heritage, amenity, and environment of your area? What changes would you seek to the Code?
Unsure that it ha impacted the area. What are the impacts of infill development in your area? What changes would you seek in the rules around infill development?
Becoming worse, 30 homes gone up across the road from me. Parking, vehicle access and extra noise are all issues. Also as the trees come down dust and street noise increased. I'm not an expert in planning and development but it seems that the rules and regulations are excessively difficult to interpret. A return to more local government autonomy might help. Overdevelopment in favoured areas and a need for more housing may also be a contributor to bad development decision making. Perhaps more renovations of existing homes and quality/affordable development (which inclus4s providing amenities)in less aspirational areas would ease the burden.Construction of new housing typically uses 30% labour and 70% materials. Renovation of existing housing stock typically uses 70% labour and 30% materials. What policy changes would you like to see made to encourage people to renovate, rather than demolish and build anew?
Easy to navigate and timely permissionsHow should the community be informed and involved in decisions about new developments?
Intelligent, imaginative and varied engaDo you think there is adequate tree canopy across your local government area?
In places, no I do not.How would you like to see significant and regulated trees in your area protected from removal?
By regulation, appropriate and effective engagementWhat involvement should Councils have in decisions about protecting or removing significant and regulated trees?
Local government involvement is more important in local decision-making than other levels as elected representatives have more access and understanding of local issues than state or federal levels. Community and council should work togetherWhat actions would you advocate to slow or mitigate the impacts of climate change in your local government area?
Solar or renewable energy everywhere. Community Gardens and orchards in parks and reserves. All new homes should be built to be fully sustainable, this should be lawWhat issues are there with traffic and parking in your area?
A lot worse than it used to beHow could transport options be improved in your area?
We have a reasonable bus service for a small town and good bike tracks. But low cost electric vehicles should be available, less reliance on petrol. What would your top three priorities be for improving planning policy and outcomes in your local government area?
Return decision making back to council and locals
Ease of navigation through planning legislation
Sustainable and environmentally sound building legislation
