1. Do you agree that the identification and protection of local heritage places is best done by local councils rather than DPTI (Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure)?
   I don't think either have a good track record. Local Heritage Places are too vulnerable to delisting by the council and the State Government when a better offer comes along. State Heritage Places seem to have no protection right now either - example Colonel Light Gardens where inappropriate development that directly conflicts with the Development Plan that is supposed to be protecting the heritage. Development applications by residents get referred to State Heritage where they get assessed by an architect who does not check against the Development Plan and apparently - neither does council - or the "on Merit" is allowing lots of stuff to ignore the plan. The Architect is unfamiliar with the principles of a Model Garden Suburb for which CLG is listed and he does not care if things like site coverage or set backs from side and back fences are respected. Council is no better because kerbing, and tree scapes and street furniture including signs and pram ramps, lights are all covered by the heritage listed and "

2. In your opinion, has the current system of local heritage protection served your community well?
   

3. Should councils reject proposals to list local places of historic merit simply because an owner objects?
   

4. Should neighbours of local heritage listed buildings have a right of appeal on development applications that propose demolition?
   

5. Should buildings listed as Contributory Items in your council area receive better protection?
   

6. Do you agree that places proposed for listing by your council as Local Heritage or Contributory Items should be subject to review by DPTI? Or would reviews be more appropriately conducted by an independent source of expert advice?
   

7. Would you like to see your council work more closely with the National Trust of SA in protecting heritage, for example, by signing up as one of the Trust's Civic Partners?
   

8. What are your personal suggestions for improving the way your council handles policy and planning?
   

9. Should councils actively encourage individuals to nominate places for consideration as local heritage?
