  1. Do you agree that the identification and protection of local heritage places is best done by local councils rather than DPTI (Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure)?
    Yes.

  2. In your opinion, has the current system of local heritage protection served your community well?
    I honestly don't feel that I have enough information to make that determination. As an example and only anecdotal I am disappointed to see the building on the corner of Hutt and South Terrace look so poorly after the erection of the Vue apartments. If that is common practice then I would say that the current system is not serving the community well.

  3. Should councils reject proposals to list local places of historic merit simply because an owner objects?
    No

  4. Should neighbours of local heritage listed buildings have a right of appeal on development applications that propose demolition?
    Yes

  5. Should buildings listed as Contributory Items in your council area receive better protection?
    Yes

  6. Do you agree that places proposed for listing by your council as Local Heritage or Contributory Items should be subject to review by DPTI? Or would reviews be more appropriately conducted by an independent source of expert advice?
    An independent body would be preferred. DPTI would then have to justify over ruling that decision.

  7. Would you like to see your council work more closely with the National Trust of SA in protecting heritage, for example, by signing up as one of the Trust's Civic Partners?
    Yes

  8. What are your personal suggestions for improving the way your council handles policy and planning?
    Personally I think planning should use visualisation tools to improve transparency. For example, a citizen should be able to get onto google maps and see a visualisation of their area. The public should be able to register interest in an area and get notifications of any planned projects that are proposed or upcoming. The visualisation could also give a 3D perspective and give neighbours and interested parties greater insight on the proposed projects. It would allow neighbours to engage in consultation much earlier on in the process and give developers greater assurity that public consultation has been incorporated into their plans.

  9. Should councils actively encourage individuals to nominate places for consideration as local heritage?
    Yes
