Heritage survey responses.
Do you agree that the identification and protection of local heritage places is best done by local councils rather than DPTI (Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure)?
I believe in having a local "eye" on our grand heritage buildings and infrastructure is beneficial but also having an overall state wide vision as well to preserve our historyIn your opinion, has the current system of local heritage protection served your community well?
From a personal experience, it is far to filled with red tape. It could be drastically improved but the same said, it is operational for the outcomes that we all still enjoy in our communityShould councils reject proposals to list local places of historic merit simply because an owner objects?
No, how does democracy work with only one person/owner says noShould neighbours of local heritage listed buildings have a right of appeal on development applications that propose demolition?
Absolutely. being informed is a powerful tool - I believe the community would like a beautiful neighbourhood to reside in and take greed out of the equationShould buildings listed as Contributory Items in your council area receive better protection?
I agree but they need maintenance using modern materials to gift their heritage to our communityDo you agree that places proposed for listing by your council as Local Heritage or Contributory Items should be subject to review by DPTI? Or would reviews be more appropriately conducted by an independent source of expert advice?
I believe we don't need an independent review consultant as it will cost the tax payer more. We currently have the "tools" to accomplish the issues that need attention. As per review by DPTI, only by exception driven from the residents, but with transparent information for both parties mentioned aboveWould you like to see your council work more closely with the National Trust of SA in protecting heritage, for example, by signing up as one of the Trust's Civic Partners?
yes, very much soWhat are your personal suggestions for improving the way your council handles policy and planning?
transparency and community engagement separate postage/emails rather than placing the information with council ratesShould councils actively encourage individuals to nominate places for consideration as local heritage?
I believe there is exposure here to develop this area. Nominations open to the public could be announced on a public platform, further encouraging community input
