What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
The Council has a role to ensure that heritage listed and potential heritage areas do not succumb to development without having either followed the appropriate process or to act as an advocate where it may be required. Council has a role in upholding heritage protection and ensuring the public and business do accordingly for the benefit of the local community who may not have the understanding or insight of the future wealth of heritage or potential heritage areas. Council is should be dedicated to the conservation, protection and celebration of Onkaparingas renowned heritage and character for future generations to interpret and enjoy. this may involve direct programs, funding, supporting it through tourism and ensure development approvals do not contravene or impact adversely on heritage areas. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
Ensuring that business development in any area that may be heritage sensitive, is publicly consulted first before any decisions are entered into. Tourism in these areas is controlled but encouraged to develop a knowledge and understanding of the rich history of our area. Community education and grant funded programs to enable communities to protect and preserve their heritage listed areas or to ensure listing occurs. What is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?

I am unsure how to answer this questions in a way that I have not already answered, but to say that in every instance where heritage is a sensitive matter, a public consultation should occur and professional advice on the loss and risk be conducted. Not every situation will be the same but should be made of the above advice and on its merits.Do you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
