Rhonda Louise Centofanti
2014 candidate for Berri Barmera Council.
Heritage survey responses.
What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
Unfortunately too much has fallen into Councils hands from Government. As much as Council can make sure we preserve heritage sites and buildings but Councils budget doesn't stretch that far. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
What is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
We have recently had a heritage survey in our district with many sites and buildings listed. We have had a unfortunate downturn in our area due to drought and our ratepayers are not happy to be spending funds on heritage items. The Council has spent millions on restoring the Bonney Theatre and we could spend at least another 2 million to complete the project. What policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
I am happy to support policies and programs to protect and conserve heritage if we have the funds to act on themDo you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
I believe Councils needs support in development approvals over $3 in value.Do you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
I support the heritage items staying in our area and once a National Trust has closed down, items have been distributed to other ares. I believe this has happened at Wilabalangaloo and items have been removed from our area. I am deeply saddened to hear this as due to my interest in preserving heritage and once retired I would have joined National Trust. Unfortunately I have now had second thoughts on joining.
