Heritage survey responses.
What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
Council should identify buildings, trees or any item or place that could or should warrant heritage listing and encourage the community to embrace and assist in the conservation of these important pieces of history in the area. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
I would definitely support heritage listing of historic buildings and sites. I would also support a "heritage fund" to assist those people with a heritage listed property. I believe council already has a fund but as I have not been on council before I am not sure of the details or how to apply. Protecting heritage or historic sites should be a focal point of any development plan. What is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
Not quite sure what you mean by my Local Govt. Area, the whole of TTG or Pedare ward. In Pedare ward the two most important issues would have to be the preservation and restoration of Captain Robertson's House "golden grove" after which the suburb was named. We also need to try to retain the "historic" feel of the old Golden Grove village. What policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
This is a bit hard for me to answer as I've not been on council before but any policy or program that achieves all the points mentioned above or at least contributes to them. The starting point would be the relevant DPA ( Development Plan Amendment). After that, specific policies that would protect what little history we have left.Do you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
Yes council should retain these development approval powers as it is important that the local represenation of the area doesn't have the control taken away.Do you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
This is an important issue for all, councils and development areas throughout Australia. I have travelled overseas and I have seen the benefit of retaining the historty in these cities and countries.
