Heritage survey responses.
What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
I think it is extremely important for Council to take the initiative to retain and restore as many heritage sites as possibleWhat measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
I feel that historic sites in private hands should be given rates discount to encourage restoration and maintenance. Most properties owned by council should be restored and used when finances allow If heritage sites and buildings held in private hands and maintenance is failed to be carried out then the owner should be fined and in extreme circumstances compulsory acquisition should be used to save the siteWhat is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
The Old Brighton Town HallWhat policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
The Councils need to get the community involved to get ideas on reuse of buildings and what sites need to be saved. Community consultation is the most important way to save heritage sites. Councils should use local workers to restore and maintain sites to encourage local ownershipDo you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
YES It is the local council residents that have to put up with any decisions and they are the ones paying for it. State Government control ends up being a job for the boys and becomes a political device to appease any party voters. I do not trust politicians as they do not have to be accountable for their disastrous decisionsDo you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
