Heritage survey responses.
What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
Ensure Development Plans protect existing heritage and character buildings and precincts and encourage new developments that contribute to the desired character of residential and commercial heritage conservation and character zones. Policies that encourage preservation of buildings that contribute to heritage zones through heritage advisory services and restoration grants. Promote community attitudes that value and support heritage conservation including cultural heritage. Demonstrate importance of heritage by ensuring maintenance and adaptive reuse of Council owned heritage buildings. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
See 5 aboveWhat is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
State Government hostility to heritage and character concepts being included in Development Plans. State Government move to regional generic development planning and assessment regimes will threaten protection of local heritage and character values and effectively remove local communities from any role in influencing development plans and development assessments. What policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
See 5 above + attempt to engage with State Government to retain Historic conservation zones and heritage values in character residential and commercial zones in any government "reforms" of the planning systemDo you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
The concept that a central decision making regime remote from local priorities will result in better decision making is seriously flawed. It will result in poor inappropriate developments that will permanently degrade the heritage and character values that make the inner Eastern suburbs very special. There is no evidence that local Council Planning and assessment through majority independent panels was not delivering good outcomes for communities and developers. The Government is determined to smash a perfectly good system. All planning assessment should be returned to local Councils .Do you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
see above. Protection of heritage and character values is critical to the wellbeing of citizens and the liveability of our eastern inner rim urban areas.
