Betty Gill
2014 candidate for City of Salisbury.
Heritage survey responses.
What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
I believe council should retain every possible piece of the heritage of the city. I have in the past been a member of a committee reviewing items/building of historical interest and it is amazing just how many pieces we have on our heritage list, including a school building the State Heritage trust refused to list saying that there are a lot of similar buildings in Sth Aust, however it was the ONLY one in Salisbury and it is now part of TAFE in Salisbury. The building features in many stories from the 'oldies' in Salisbury. However it is not always possible to retain every building, but we do try to save as many as possible. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
Our Historical Society are very active and advise us of the significance of specific buildings in particular. What is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
