Heritage survey responses.
What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
To set policy and zoning to preserve heritage in its Development Plan which guides planning decisions. To provide sound advice to CDAP on planning decisions affecting heritage. To provide sound advice and design guidelines for renovation of heritage sites. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
Council should compile comprehensive lists of heritage items and encourage and contribute funds towards their maintenance. Rate rebates for maintenance of heritage items. What is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
Threats to the historic rural character of the district and its towns through population growth. Loss of culturally modified trees which have indigenous and early settler significance. What policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
Community reference groups would be useful. A Deveopment Plan Amendment to reinforce heritage protections.Do you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
Yes: local accountability and knowledge are important. I led our council to oppose aspects of the Urban Renewal Bill which sideline councils in its submission and supported council opposition to aspects of the draft review by the Expert Panel on Planning Review which do likewise.Do you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
Heritage is important to our sense of local identity. We need ollicies which encourage use and restoration of heritage sites and I advocate council working with Renew Adelaide to reinvigorate the main road of Nairne through making unused sites available for low or no rent to creative industries.
