What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
identifying and negotiating prospective listings, ensuring compliance in any planning applications and distributing annual awards to those who are preserving our past
What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
all the above I also help care for one such property and have an application in Council for recognition of our work
What is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
our open spaces with native vegetation and little 'beautifulication' and our century-old buildings
What policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
maintenance I can't add to this until [and if] I get on to Council and know their policies
Do you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
that is loaded! Yes, if the Council is balanced and sensitive to heritage and locality No if it's one of those 'progressive' councils
Do you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
There are many ways of modernising an area without razing it and starting again and my Ward has many beautiful old buildings, including former local corner shops, that can be restored to glory without excessive funds. Our parks and gardens need a balance of nature/nurture; left as natural as possible but safe and attractive to bring families together
