2014 candidate for City of Port Lincoln.
Heritage survey responses.
What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
I think it is very important. I believe the role requires Councillors to consider the indigenous aspects, heritage, contribution, and culture of all future development sites. I also believe the local heritage, culture and contribution should be considered for all parks and historical buildings. I think the role of Council should be to enhance these attributes in the community and preserve them for the use of all in the future. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
Collaboration, consultation and restoration where required. I also believe the National Trust must honour the legacies it is left with, or transfer them to Council's rather than sell off assets. I am thinking particularly of Brinkworth Reserve in Port Lincoln, which may be subject to sale, after being entrusted for the future benefit of residents. What is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
Asset sell off's by the National Trust! Protecting indigenous and other cultural sites. What policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
Collaboration and consultation.Do you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
YesDo you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
We must try and identify heritage sites and local history areas, plan for their protection and of course obtain funding to ensure they are protected and available for future generations. We must not forget significant sites or our heritage (from many cultures).
