What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
Ensuring that local heritage properties are not demolished or altered significantly Ensuring that significant trees are not damaged or removedWhat measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
same as above ie Ensuring that local heritage properties are not demolished or altered significantly Ensuring that significant trees are not damaged or removedWhat is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
There are a lot of beautiful old houses in our area Ensuring that these properties are not demolished or altered significantlyWhat policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
Continuation of the current policies But these need to be more flexibleDo you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
yesDo you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
There needs to be more flexibility example: I home owner whose house has local heritage significance is currently required to seek & pay for Development applications as well as extra costs IF the development is accepted eg Fencing Solar Panels gutters If a person was planning to knock down walls etc I can understand but the issues that myself & my partner had to go through with the 3 above improvement was extremely stressful & expensive. I could tell you stories about all 3 issues but Ill tell you about guttering. We have a 1890s local heritage house At the time it had 1970s style box guttering which was due for replacement. Obviously we wanted to put the original OG style guttering on in keeping with the house However we were told that because we are not replacing like with like (eg brand new 1970s style box guttering) we would have to put in a Development application ($$$) and wait for approval (or not) Unfortunately from our previous dealings with the West Torrens Council we knew that by the time they approved anything the rainy season would almost be over (we were wanting to harvest the rain water) So we didn't pursue in getting the original 1890 OG style gutters on our 1890s house until much later Again, I have many thoughts about this question Also I consider myself very heritage minded HOWEVER the way that the current legislation works & administered by councils (especially the WTCC) is pretty bad
