What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
1. Identifying and applying for State Heritage listing of sites. 2. As a record keeper of historical literature within its Council area via its libraries. 3. Grant funding to owners of heritage listed sites for restoration. 4. Restoration and maintenance of Council owned heritage listed buildings and premises. 5. Support local branches of National Trust (eg Willunga branch) 6. Facilitate community group discussions on the value and education of heritage values and issues.What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
1. Grants for restoration. 2. Library collections 3. Concessional rates for lease of buildings to National Trust Branches (eg Willunga branch) 4. Support for community group websites (eg Now & Then - Willunga) 5. Heritage collections and public displays/monuments (eg Nashwauk Anchor) 6. Tourism signage of heritage sites.What is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
In the Wine Coast Ward (City of Onkaparinga), heritage sites within Willunga, Port Willunga, McLaren Vale and Old Noarlunga.What policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
The City of Onkaparinga has a good set of policies currently, however I believe it could improve upon it's programs involving and educating the community on the values and importance of heritage preservation.Do you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
Yes, it is critical that intricate knowledge of the local area, and the environment that these development plans will affect are taken into account when assessed. This local knowledge will be lost with Regional Boards.Do you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
Over the past 4 years, I have supported the Willunga National Trust branch advocating for lower leasing rates for the premises at the Old Police Station, decreased water bills as watering was partly performed to preserve the building foundations, support of the "Now & Then" website, and restoration of the Water Tower and Old Railway Station within Willunga. I have also supported the restoration of the Nashwauk Anchor and it's pending placement at Moana.
