1. What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
   What is councils role: to preserve our cultural sites for future generations because we value our history, both aboriginal and European. Maintain a Cemeteries Register which allows people to search the records of each of these cemeteries. • Cherry Gardens • Clarendon/Kangarilla • Coromandel Valley • Happy Valley • Morphett Vale Bains • Morphett Vale Scotch Record of Land use which has changed over the years including housing, business, agriculture, mining (stone). Providing Memorials are another way of preserving our history and commemorating important events, including maritime disasters. Built heritage within council areas comprises heritage places of national, state and local significance. The places listed are generally confined to public owned local heritage places, along with places within the Register of the National Estate and those on the State Heritage Register. However, there are many other protected places within the council area. These encompass a history of european settlement centred around the development of the original townships, which are now living examples of heritage precincts.

2. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
   I am committed to the conservation of our built heritage and recognise the requirement of a broad approach to heritage conservation, incorporating both statutory protection and voluntary incentive measures. I support continuing to develop, a range of initiatives to assist in the protection of our built heritage. These include: - initiatives to conserve and promote both publicly and privately owned heritage places. These include: • Heritage Advisory Service which can be accessed by owners of heritage properties within the City of Onkaparinga • Local Heritage Fund for conservation work to local heritage buildings • Local heritage inventories developed by the three former councils • Heritage Conservation Plans for council owned buildings. - Council provides expert architectural advice for property owners of state and local heritage items within the area relating to: • how to maintain and conserve heritage buildings • how to redevelop/create additions to heritage buildings • possible funding sources • assistance with development applications. - Conservation plans establish the heritage values of a place, as well as identify conservation policies and maintenance mechanisms appropriate in maintaining those heritage values. I support plans prepared for Aberfoyle Homestead, Waverley Homestead, Sauerbier Homestead, Willunga Rail Terminus. Conservation plans generally comprise the following: • history of the place • an architectural assessment • analysis of the physical condition of the place • statement of the heritage values of the place • constraints on conservation, including user and/or owner requirements • conservation policies for the place and the site • measured drawings.

3. What is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
   My priority are for the protection of the Willunga Heritage & Old Noarlunga heitage precincts.

4. What policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
   I will support the retention of the already strong measures the City of Onkaparinga has in place.

5. Do you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
   Yes, however the cost shifting actions of the two other levels of government had created a significant burden on local government to continue in this role. Adequate resourcing needs to be restored so that council can continue to perform its part in the development assessment and plan amendment process.
