Heritage survey responses.

1. What do you think Council's role is in protecting and conserving heritage?
   I think the Council has a very crucial role in Heritage conservation. Recognising and supporting our heritage is of the utmost importance. My father-in-law Geoff Manning, a prominent South Australian historical writer, is a descendant of the family who dug the first cellar in McLaren Vale. So our family is steeped in the history of South Australia and in the belief that is should be revered and protected. Having written 'A Colonial Experience', Historical 'Reflections from South Australia - A Series of Essays on Social Matters in Colonial South Australia', 'Hope Farm' just to name a few of his publications, our family will continue the conserve part of our national heritage by maintaining his website http://www.geoffmanning.net.au, so we can all can enjoy. Local Councils should recognise people like Geoff Manning, and their endeavours to preserve our dwindling knowledge of the past, so that future generations can appreciate them in the future.

2. What measures and incentives do you support to protect and conserve local heritage?
   Funding and supporting heritage publications, websites and heritage buildings, should be paramount. Councils should be pro-active in registering and protecting their historical buildings for future generations to come.

3. What is the most important heritage protection issue in your local government area?
   The National Trust buildings at Willunga. The Rosemount original cellar. The placards noting the various historical sites. the historical Willunga basin. Old Coach Road in Aldinga and the surrounding churches in the area.

4. What policies and programs will you advocate to protect and conserve heritage in your local area?
   A strong impenetrable register of national heritage. Information dissemination of heritage and historical data from our local area. Engaging with youth and youth groups of the importance of our heritage, which has started as in the turnout for Anzac Day tributes in the area.

5. Do you support local Councils retaining development approval powers for projects over $3m in value?
   I think development approval should go out for public consultation, if it is affecting the local landscape as it stands.

6. Do you have any other thoughts about the protection of heritage in your Council area?
   Heritage is vital for our culture to learn and grow, if we destroy our historical references, how can we learn to go forward?
